By Saheed Afolabi
General manager of Gombe United, Abubakar Abubakar has set a continental target for the club in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Abubakar made an impactful campaign last season and had earned himself a renewed stint in charge of the Gombe based outfit.
Following the extension of his leadership stint, the sport administrator sees his reappointment as a call to surpass his previous performance, assuring that their sole aim is on winning the league diadem and earning a continental slot.
“I can’t express how delighted I am but this is another call to duty and also deliver, just as I have done in a few years I came into management of Gombe United,” Abubakar told the club’s media.
“I want to specially use this medium to thank His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his faith in me, after he deemed it worthy to once again hand me the baton to adminster the affairs of Gombe United as General Manager.
“I don’t want to make much promises but am assuring that the Savannah Scorpions will hit the ground running when the new NPFL season kicks off, with the sole aim of winning and giving it a shot for a title or continental slot at the end of the domestic league campaign.”
The Savannah Scorpions finished in seventh place in group A of NPFL abridged table with 19 points from 18 matches.
