Two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Members, Mr Daniel Umoh and Miss EnyeneAbasi Emmanuel have donated an electronic signpost to their Place of Primary Assignment Akwa United Football Club.
Mr Daniel, a graduate of Psychology from the University of Uyo, and Miss EnyeneAbasi Emmanuel presented the electronic signpost to the club Chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, on Friday at the club house in Uyo as captured by the club Media Department on Tuesday.
Mr. Daniel, who was posted to Rivers State for his national youth service program, was redeployed to Akwa Ibom State and was posted to the Ministry of Sports, where he was subsequently posted to Akwa United Football Club and was attached to the office of the team’s Technical Director and Psychologist Coach Ime Uko.
While Miss EnyeneAbasi Emmanuel, a graduate of Physics from University of Uyo who will complete her service year in May this year was also posted to the ministry of Sports and later posted to Akwa United Football Club and is attached to the office of the club’s secretary.
Speaking on behalf of his colleague after making their presentation, Mr Daniel said that they embarked on the project as a way of contributing to the club.
“When I was posted to Akwa United Football Club from the Ministry of Sports, I was excited because it was my first time getting closer to and understanding the internal workings of a professional football club.
“I used to think that football starts and ends in the field of play but during my service year with Akwa United I got to understand the importance of football administration.
“The idea of donating an electronic signpost came after we heard that the first signpost that was donated by another corps member in 2019 was destroyed during road construction, we decided to donate this one that can be fixed to the outside wall of the office to help direct fans and visitors to the clubhouse”.
The corps members thanked the Management of Akwa United for the opportunity to serve in the club and for their wonderful hospitality. They wished the club success in all her endeavours.
Receiving the item, chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey expressed appreciation to the two Corps members and commended them for their thoughtfulness of initiating and executing such a wonderful project for the club and added that the gesture will be remembered by everyone at the club.
This kind gesture donation came before Akwa United’s 2-1 win over two time African champions, Enyimba in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
After the win, the Akwa Ibom State Football Association gave the players of the Promise Keepers one hundred thousand Naira to encourage them for the victory.
The cash reward according to Akwa Ibom State FA Chairman was to appreciate and motivate the team for more victories in the remaining matches of the season.
