NPFL clubs share 200m takeoff grants from GTI as 2023 season start on January 8

The initial worries about the January 8 commencement date for new Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL may been put to rest following the truce reaced by the Interim Management Committee, IMC and the clubs.

The resolution was reached between the NPFL clubs and the IMC with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau in attendance at the meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

The IMC also used the occasion to present a N200m grant to all the 20 clubs that will be participating in the 2022/2023 football season.

Chairman of the IMC, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye while presenting the cheque to the chairman of the club managers led by Barrister Isaac Danladi, disclosed that the N200 million will be equally shared by among all the clubs to ease their preparations for the league.

Elegbeleye added that the clubs will be getting more support from the IMC as the league progresses just as he commended the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare, the NFF president, Gusau, the club chairmen, sponsors, and partners for their supports.

Alhaji Gusau hailed the IMC for its great service in steering the league organization so far, as he believes that Nigerian football need be run professionally and transparently noting that its how to draw support of all.

“As I promised during my electioneering campaign that I will do everything possible to change the face of football in Nigeria, It is time to change the narrative of football in our country and it is time for our football to run well,” he said.

“We want to run our league the way it’s being run around the world. We must start next season in August and nothing can stop it. It’s time to get things right.”

Group Managing Director GMD of GTI Group, the league sponsors, Abubakar Lawal, said the NPFL has now been transformed into a unique national sports asset that will create opportunities for key stakeholders and the general public to earn good returns on their sponsorship and investments through The Nigeria Football Fund (TNFF).

Chairman of the club managers, Danladi assured that the clubs will work with the IMC for the league success.
