NPFL: Kun Khalifat end Enyimba’s unbeaten run as Shooting Stars deny Kano Pillars late

By Wale Mustapha

Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Kun Khalifat, pulled off one of the surprises of Matchday 8 by ending Enyimba’s unbeaten start to the season with a 1–0 victory on Sunday.

The match, played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, marked Kun Khalifat’s second win in their debut top-flight campaign. Nwokorie Ebuka netted the decisive goal in the 67th minute, finishing off a well-executed free kick to seal all three points.

The victory also snapped Kun Khalifat’s four-match winless streak and handed defending champions Enyimba their first defeat of the season.

Elsewhere, Shooting Stars salvaged a dramatic point with a stoppage-time equalizer in a 1–1 draw against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Pillars took the lead early through Mustapha Jibrin, who capitalized on a defensive error by the visitors. However, Musa Adams struck late in added time to deny the hosts a win and ensure the spoils were shared.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors cruised to a 2–0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, while Kwara United held Wikki Tourists to a 1–1 draw in Bauchi.
