NPFL MD 12 Wrap: Remo Stars hold Tornadoes as Lobi pip Gombe to close gap atop

Leaders, Remo Stars played out a 0-0 draw with Niger Tornadoes away from home among the midweek matches which took centre stage in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 12 on Wednesday.

The Sky Blue Stars maintained their leadership position on log despite the draw on superior goal difference.

In Makurdi, Lobi Stars pipped Gombe United thanks to Sunday Chinedu’s winner as the host moved level on points with Remo Stars.

In Ilorin, Kwara United and Doma United settled for a goalless draw. Moses Omodumueke’s 73rd-minute goal lifted Sunshine Stars to a 1-0 win against Shooting Stars Sports Club in Akure.

Abia Warriors forced Sporting Lagos to a 1-1 draw as Paschal Nwabueze equalised Naibe Akpesiri’s opener for the Lagos side.

Plateau United relied on a last-gasp goal from Olawale Doyemi to secure a 2-1 victory over Enugu Rangers with Moses Adikwu opening the scoring before Chidiebere Nwobodo equalised for Rangers.

Kano Pillars continued their fine form after last weekend’s 5-2 win away in Gombe with a 1-0 win against Akwa United thanks to Unar Mustapha’s winner.

Finally, Heartland FC picked their first win of the season under new coach, Kennedy Boboye as Austin Osayande scored the decisive goal.

Overall, Remo Stars and Lobi Stars are tied with 23 points at the top of the table.

Doma United (22 points), Kano Pillars (19 points), and Enyimba FC (19 points) complete the top five teams.

Heartland FC seats in the relegation position of 19th despite their first win of the season with 10 points while Bayelsa United (10 points), Akwa United (11 points), and Gombe United (12 points) complete the list of bottom four teams.
