NPFL: Nasarawa United wins appeal over point deduction

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nasarawa United’s point deduction appeal has seen the light of the day as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee ruled in the Lafia-based club’s favor.

The Committee found that the case of assault on the Referee of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter between Nasarawa United and Rivers United was not proven beyond reasonable doubt.

Moreover, the committee affirmed that the Match Commissioner, during interrogation, denied knowledge of any assault on the Referee or any other Match Official.

The Committee found that the Match Commissioner was inexperienced and incompetent to handle any Premier League Match.

Furthermore, there was video evidence showing that Nasarawa United FC supporters were throwing stones and objects into the field of play.

The order in paragraph “4” deducting 3 points and 3 goals from the accrued points/goals of Nasarawa United FC by the NPFL was set aside by the committee on the ground that the case of assault on the match official was not proven beyond reasonable doubt.

The Committee recommended that the Match Commissioner, Mr. Godfrey Maman JP, should be demoted to the Nigeria National League (NNL) category with immediate effect.
