NPFL promotion or Federation Cup? Ibrahim Musa reveals Kano Pillars top priority

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ibrahim Musa has outlined Kano Pillars’ top priority during the current Nigeria National League season, with a promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League and Federation Cup silverware up for grabs.

The Masu Gida were relegated to the second tier NNL at the end of the 2021/2022 NPFL season and will go into Wednesday’s Federation Cup draw as one of the favourites after winning the last edition held in 2021.

Ahead of Wednesday’s draw for the 2023 Federation Cup, the Sai Masu Gida Chief coach is putting his eggs in a basket, stressing that the team’s main focus is to gain promotion from the NPFL.

“We are used to it and it’s after the draw that we will know our opponents and start our plan,” Ibrahim told Brila FM.

” The early round of the Federation Cup is not that easy. After that, every match is like a final for every team. If we are playing underdogs at the first stage, that is where we have problems.

“If we are playing a big team, we don’t have a problem. We will do everything to see Kano Pillars are through and go far. If we can’t win the Federation Cup, our initial target I to go back to the NPFL.

“We are not much concerned about the Federation Cup. Our major concern is to gain promotion to the NPFL.”

The Round of 32 matches of the 2023 Federation Cup has been scheduled for Wednesday, 3rd May, with the Round of 16 slated for Wednesday, 10th May, and the quarter-finals to take place on Wednesday, 17th May.

The semi-finals will come up on Wednesday, 24th May with the grand finale on Saturday, 27th May.
