NPFL: Remo Stars coach Daniel Ogunmodede tired of runners-up placement

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Remo Stars are setting their sights on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title after securing second place for two consecutive seasons.

Under the guidance of Coach Ogunmodede, the Ikenne-based side has consistently performed at a high level, finishing as runners-up in both the 2022 and 2023/2024 seasons. Their impressive performances have also earned them a spot in the CAF Champions League.

Speaking after a 1-0 victory over Sunshine Stars, Ogunmodede expressed his determination to surpass their recent achievements. “We’ve come close to the top for three seasons in a row. This year, our goal is to do better and finally reach the summit,” Ogunmodede declared. “We are committed to giving our all to secure the top position and will fight hard to achieve our objective.”

The team’s strong start to the current season includes a 2-0 win over Abia Warriors and a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Sunshine Stars in a South West derby. Ogunmodede praised his team’s resilience, noting, “It was a challenging game, but we earned the three points through sheer determination. The derby was intense, and both sides displayed the quality we expected.”

Reflecting on the performance, Ogunmodede acknowledged that while the game was not perfect, the team’s effort and tenacity were commendable. “It wasn’t our best game, but the boys showed great resilience, which we perhaps lacked towards the end of last season. We aim to balance attractive football with the grit needed to succeed,” he added.

With their perfect record intact, Remo Stars will aim to continue their strong form in their upcoming match against Kano Pillars on September 22, 2024. The team is poised to build on their early success and is eager to translate their promise into a long-awaited league title.
