NPFL: Remo Stars drop points in title race as Rivers reduce gap to eight

Remo Stars, which hitherto had an 11-point lead over Rivers United, suffered a 2-1 loss against Bendel Insurance in Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 28 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Saturday.

A brace in each half from Meyiwa Oriteweyinmi lifted the host to victory despite Samuel Anakwe reducing the deficit late on.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United edged Niger Tornadoes 1-0 thanks to Samson Obi’s 83rd minute goal.

Remo Stars lead at the top of the table has been cut to eight points.

They top the log with 54 points.

Rivers United is in second spot with 46 points, while Ikorodu City FC, which secured a 1-0 win against Lobi Stars in Enugu, moved to third place with 44 points.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) dropped to fourth position with 43 points after Friday’s 1-0 loss at Katsina United.
