Ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the President of Sunshine Stars Football Club, Bamidele Ologunloluwa has disclosed the reason the club adopted Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, as their temporary home.
Ologunloluwa said the Owena Whales chose Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State due to ongoing renovation and upgrading of Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
He urged the Akure based club fans both home and abroad to bear with the team, saying he understands the pains for ardent football lovers to miss out on their darling team in their traditional home.
Dele Ologunloluwa added that the adoption of Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode will be temporary as renovation works will be hastily done on the stadium in Akure.
“I can assure our fans that Sunshine Stars will make them happy with good results in this 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season,” He said.
“We are working to present not any just team but a solid squad that will have capacity to compete for League.”
Hon Ologunloluwa applauded the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa for showing the people of the state that he is truly a lover of football by approving the renovation and upgrading of Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
“We thank and appreciate Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the much he is doing to develop football in Ondo State and his appreciable support for other sports,” He continued.
“That goes a long way in showing that he is indeed a true lover of football and by extension sports.”
Sunshine Stars are expected to get their 2024/2025 season underway with a home tie against Bayelsa United, in Ijebu-Ode.
With more than a decade without qualifying for continental football, the team hope to push for a place in the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.
