NWFL announces cash sponsorship for Best Goalkeeper

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially announced that the only sanctioned sponsorship for the 2024/2025 season is the End-of-Season Best Goalkeeper Award, which is valued at ₦200,000 and is sponsored by the Judith Chime Foundation.

This award will be presented at the end of the current NWFL Premiership Super Six, scheduled to take place from May 9 to 17, 2025, at the Remo Stars Stadium located in Ikenne, Ogun State.

After reviewing a proposal from the Judith Chime Foundation, the NWFL has approved solely the goalkeeper award in line with its operational guidelines and dedication to professionalism.

In a statement, the Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Ms. Modupe Shabi, expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s initiative while clarifying the league’s regulatory position.

“We sincerely appreciate the Judith Chime Foundation’s gesture in rewarding excellence among NWFL Premiership goalkeepers. However, it is crucial to note that only the ₦200,000 End-of-Season Best Goalkeeper Award has been officially approved for the 2024/2025 season,” Shabi remarked.

She also praised Judith Chime, a former Super Falcons goalkeeper, for her ongoing support of women’s football development in Nigeria.

“Judith Chime has consistently shown a profound commitment to the women’s game. Her Foundation’s contribution aligns with our mutual objective of highlighting talent and dedication within the league,” she added.

To uphold the league’s standards and commercial integrity, the NWFL COO stressed that no additional cash prizes or material donations have been authorized.

“This decision is part of our commitment to safeguarding the integrity and value of the NWFL, particularly as we continue to attract increasing corporate and commercial interest,” Shabi stated.

The NWFL remains receptive to well-structured and transparent partnerships that align with its vision for the sustainable advancement of professional women’s football in Nigeria.
