Former Nigeria U-20 Women’s national team coach, Peter Dedevbo has been appointed as the head coach of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Delta Queens.
He replaced Tosan Blankson who had since taken over as Rivers Angels coach.
In a letter by the Delta State Sports Commission dated November 26, 2024, Dedevbo’s appointment was confirmed.
In the letter, Mercy Awhana was appointed as Delta Queens General Manager while Joy Oyibo will serve as the club secretary.
After winning the NWFL Premiership title in 2023, Delta Queens finished sixth in Group B and could not qualify for the Super Six under Blankson in 2024.
This came after a 1-0 loss to Ampem Darkoa (Ghana) in the final of the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Champions League Qualifiers, which ended their quest to make it to the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Winning the league in 2023 ended a long wait to lift the title for the Pearls.
Dedevbo guided the Falconet to their second final at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup where the team lost in the final 1-0 to Germany.
Record Africa women’s player of the year winner, Asisat Oshoala was part of the squad in 2014.
