NWFL Premiership: Edo Queens finish regular season as Group B winners

Edo Queens ended the NWFL Premiership regular season in style following a 1-0 win at Abia Angels on Thursday.
Moses Aduku’s side had bowed to a shocking result when they lost 1-0 to Abia Angels at their Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin weeks ago.
On Wednesday, they were forced to rescheduled the encounter after 30 minutes of action due to heavy downpour and a solitary strike from Omotoke Odukeke ensured the maximum points on Thursday morning.
Both sides showed determination and hunger to claim a win in the battle for supremacy but the first half didn’t produce any goal.
At the resumption, Edo Queens showed more determination and we’re resilience in their pursuit for a goal in the game.
Edo Queens midfielder Suliat Abideen created a space for herself to send a lofty pass on the path of Omotoke Odueke who turned to find the back of the net in the 48th minute.
The introduction of Chioma Moses and Rebecca Ajimuda into the Edo Queens fold provided the wasteful Benin Arsenals more depth in the final third but were denied by the heroic saves of Abia Angels goalkeeper, Iyene Etim.
Edo Queens preserved their slim lead as they finished the regular season as group B winners, with 25 points from 12 matches, having already booked their place at the NWFL Premiership Super Six.
