NWFL Premiership MD9 Wrap: Edo Queens edge Nasarawa Amazons in five-goal thriller

Edo Queens foughtback thanks to a late goal from Fajobi Yetunde to edge Nasarawa Amazons 3-2 in Wednesday’s matchday nine 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership encounter in Benin City.
After a goalless first half at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, the hosts found the breakthrough as Yemisi Samuel was in the right place to poke home the opening goal of the match in the 55th minute.
The celebration, however were shortlived as a superb solo effort by Odubanjo Dominance gave the visitors the equalising goal a minute later.
Edo Queens retook the lead again from a wonderful free kick by Suliat Abideen in the 71st minute.  Aweda Titilayo equalised for the Lafia-based side for the second time in the game from a seeming cross that beat Obidinma Nkiruka.
Fajobi converted the all-important winning goal for Moses Aduku’a side in the additional minutes of the second half after capitalising on an uncleared free kick.
Elsewhere in Port Harcourt, Bayelsa Queens pipped Rivers Angels 2-1 thanks to goals from Adaobi Okah and Etim Edidiong while Chiamaka Okwuchukwu had initially equalised for the host.
In Uyo, goals from Udeme Uko and Adekemi Akintan ensured that Ibom Angels secured a 2-0 win over Adamawa Queens.
Second-half goals from Folashade Ijamilusi and Taiwo Lawal lifted FC Robo Queens to a 2-0 triumph against Abia Angels in Lagos.
Royal Queens in Warri won the relegation battle as Favour Ijeje’s 65th-minute penalty propelled the Canadian Geese to a 1-0 win over Osun Babes.
Delta Queens top Group A with 17 points ahead of Bayelsa Queens (15 points), Rivers Angels (10 points), Heartland Queens (8 points), Royal Queens (8 points), Naija Ratels FC (7 points), and Osun Babes (6 points).
Edo Queens returned to the top of Group B with 15 points, two points ahead of Nasarawa Amazons. The Amazons alongside FC Robo Queens and Confluence Queens all have 13 points while Abia Angels (10 points), Adamawa Queens (9 points), and Ibom Angels (6 points) follow in descending order.
