NWFL Premiership: Rivers Angels unveil 14 new players ahead of season opener

Seven-time Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Champions Rivers Angels have unveiled 14 new players for the 2024/2025 league campaign.

The Port Harcourt-based side signed two goalkeepers, two defenders, four midfielders, and six attackers.

Blessing Ifitezue, Chidera Okenwa, Nwachukwu Chisom, Anderline Mgbechi, Taiwo Afolabi, and Aweda Titilayo, teamed up with their former coach at Delta Queens, Tosan Blankson, who will be in charge of the Pride of Rivers after his switch from the 2022/2023 league winners.

Taiwo Ajibade and Aganmuyi Taiwo also moved to the Port Harcourt-based side from Sunshine Queens.

Other new players signed by Blankson’s side include Anike Azeez (New Generation Club), Saka Saidat (Osun Babes), Yusuf Nana (Confluence Queens), and Fatima Oloko (Adamawa Queens).

The team retained 15 players from last season.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, their former coach, Edwin Okon will return to Port Harcourt with Ibom Angels in the league opener.

Rivers Angels finished second at the end of the 2023/2024 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State capital.

Edo Queens won their maiden league title with a point ahead of Rivers Angels.
