NWFL: Vera Samuel eyes continental glory with Bayelsa Queens

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

After being part of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League with Edo Queens, Vera Samuel wants more with her current side.

The Bayelsa Queens player opened her goals account for the season during the Prosperity Girls 5-1 thrashing of newcomers, Benue Queens on Wednesday.

The former Delta Queens and Royal Queens player is dreaming of winning the NWFL Premiership title with the chance of claiming the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League trophy after a fourth-place finish with Edo Queens

“My contribution is to help the team win games and I’m grateful to God I was able to do so in our previous away match,” She said.

“My target this season is to Lift the CAF trophy with Bayelsa Queens. Participating in the CAF Women’s Champions League with Edo queens prepared me tactically.”

To get to the CAF Women’s Champions League, Vera and Bayelsa Queens have to first win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership and West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) titles, which will qualify the team for the CAF-organised tournament.

Since 2021, the best finish by any Nigerian side at the CAF Women’s Champions League was a third-place finish for Bayelsa Queens in 2022.

This was followed by Edo Queens’ fourth-placed finish, while Rivers Angels bowed out in the group stage in 2021, and Delta Queens remained the only Nigerian side that did not qualify for the competition in 2023.
