Odemwingie Prioritizes Team Triumph Over Personal Milestones in Upcoming Clash with Barito
Former Nigerian international, Osaze Odemwingie, has emphasized his commitment to securing a victory for Madura United against Barito Putera in the Indonesian league rather than solely focusing on adding to his goals tally. Odemwingie recently marked his return to the scoresheet, netting in Madura United’s 4-3 away triumph against Persiba last Sunday after a three-month hiatus due to injury.
Having achieved 14 goals in 21 league appearances, the 36-year-old striker had previously led the league’s top scorers before succumbing to injury. Despite his individual accomplishments, Odemwingie maintains that clinching a win against Barito is his paramount objective.
“Hopefully, in the next game, I can score a goal or assist a teammate in scoring,” expressed Odemwingie during an interview with the club’s official website. He stressed, “For me, the team’s victory is of utmost importance compared to personal scoring.”
Madura United currently holds the fifth position with 57 points, trailing the league leaders PSM by five points in the top-flight league table. As Odemwingie gears up for the upcoming match against Barito, his focus remains firmly on contributing to the team’s success rather than individual accolades.
