Nigeria international Odion Ighalo will continue his stay in the Saudi Pro League after finalizing a deal with Al-Wehda on a free transfer.
The Mecca-based club officially announced the deal via its official social media channels, confirming Ighalo’s commitment to a one-year term with the option for a potential extension.
The 34-year-old forward is not a stranger to the league after enjoying time with Al-Shabab where he had an impressive goal-scoring campaign, before securing a move to one of the biggest clubs in the land, Al-Hilal.
He also enjoyed an incredible season with Al-Hilal last season where he scored 21 goals in all competitions, leading the Blue Waves to the finals of the AFC Champions League and Club World Cup to earn himself a place in the season.
Ighalo has a pool of experience from playing for teams like, Manchester United, Watford, Granada, Shanghai Shen, to name few.
Earlier reports had suggested that the former Watford forward was contemplating a return to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for a period of six months to a year, as revealed in his interview on Elegbete TV.
However, he will now continue his exploits having the chance to extend his current over 50 goals tally while he will square off with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Karim Benzema, and an array of other top-tier European players in the Saudi League this season.
Al Wehda’s next league fixture on Friday will see them host Ighalo’s former Saudi League club, Al Shabab, and there is anticipation for Ighalo’s potential inclusion in his new team’s lineup donning the colours of the Knights of Mecca.
