OFFICIAL: David Akintola joins Hull City, links up with Semi Ajayi

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Hull City have confirmed the signing of Nigerian winger David Akintola from Turkish side Çaykur Rizespor on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year.

The 29-year-old becomes the club’s latest summer addition and will now team up with fellow Nigeria international Semi Ajayi at the English Championship side.

“I’m very happy to be here – I cannot describe the feeling,” Akintola said during his unveiling. “A couple of weeks ago, the club showed interest. It was a very easy decision.”

The former Rizespor man revealed that visa delays prolonged his arrival, but expressed gratitude for finally completing the move.

“Because I was in Nigeria, I needed a visa to come, so that’s why it took a little while, but I’m very happy to finally be here. Growing up in Nigeria, everybody watches the Premier League.

“Hull have played in the Premier League before, so it’s a team I’ve known about for a very long time.”

Akintola described his move to England as a “dream come true,” adding: “Everybody in Nigeria wants to play in England. It’s what we watch growing up. I’m ready to give everything and help the team achieve big things.”

A versatile right-sided attacker, Akintola brings extensive European experience, having featured in 147 Turkish Süper Lig matches. He joined Çaykur Rizespor in February 2024, registering four goals and nine assists in 49 appearances, including 36 games last season.

He now becomes part of Hull City’s push for promotion ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
