Ethiopian Premier League side Wolwalo has made a significant move to strengthen their squad with the acquisition of seasoned goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo.
The 34-year-old, who joins the club on a five-month contract, will look to help Wolwalo improve its performance after conceding 24 goals this season.
Wolwalo’s head coach, Tsegaye Kidanemariam, is optimistic that Ojo’s vast experience will be key in their fight for survival in the league.
Ojo, who recently finished his stint with Sudanese club El-Merreikh, revealed that he had several offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Kuwait, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, he chose Wolwalo due to the club’s professional management.
“I have high aspirations with Wolwalo,” Ojo said. “I am genuinely excited to be here; it is a privilege to wear the yellow jersey and represent Wolwalo. I am dedicated to giving my utmost for the club and its fans.”
Ojo went on to express his gratitude for the warm welcome he received upon his arrival. “It is a true honor to join this distinguished club, and the opportunity to work hard in Ethiopia and contribute to Wolwalo’s success is a significant source of motivation for me.”
The veteran goalkeeper brings a wealth of experience to Wolwalo, having previously played for clubs such as Giwa FC, Sunshine Stars, Abia Warriors, and Enyimba. His consistent performances over the years have earned him a reputation as a reliable shot-stopper.
Ojo was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles secured a silver medal.
