Rivers United’s Technical Adviser, Finidi George, expressed relief after his side clinched a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Pride of Rivers endured a tense Matchday 29 encounter, securing the win only in the final moments, thanks to a superb finish by Samson Obi.
The crucial victory cut the gap between Rivers United and league leaders Remo Stars to eight points.
Speaking after the match, Finidi acknowledged the challenges his team faced, citing both the difficult weather conditions and the tactical approach employed by Niger Tornadoes.
“The weather made things difficult for us today,” Finidi said.
“Every game from here on will be challenging, and we are also going to play away. It’s going to be a battle, and we must be prepared for games like this.”
Finidi also reflected on the reverse fixture, noting the improved tactics of Niger Tornadoes.
“The team we played today was different from the one we faced in the first leg. If they had managed to secure a point, it would have been deserved, but thankfully, the goal came. We just have to accept the three points,” he added.
Looking ahead, Rivers United will face El-Kanemi Warriors in their next match as they continue their push for the title.
