Okpotu’s Double Seals NPFL Invitational Triumph as Home Eagles Set Sights on CHAN Glory

In a riveting display of skill and determination, the home-based Super Eagles secured victory in the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Invitational Tournament, defeating MFM FC 3-2 in a pulsating final at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano. The triumph, marked by Anthony Okpotu’s brace, has ignited fervent aspirations for success at the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

As the West African contingent embarks on their third CHAN appearance, Okpotu, a standout performer in the invitational tournament, voiced the team’s ambitions. “It’s no doubt a morale-boosting win for us. The CHAN is a few weeks away, and when you do well in a competition like this, it will surely have a positive effect on the team,” emphasized the Lobi Stars striker.

Having concluded the invitational competition with two victories and a draw from three challenging encounters, the Super Eagles are poised to make a formidable impact in Morocco. Okpotu, reflecting on their CHAN quest, asserted, “We have not won the CHAN before, and it will be great to win it in Morocco. Now, we have to step up our preparation and keep working hard. We know it’s going to be tough out there in Morocco, but we will equally be up to the task.”

Drawn into Group C alongside Rwanda, Libya, and Equatorial Guinea, the journey for CHAN glory is set to commence on January 13, culminating on February 4. As the nation awaits with bated breath, the Home Eagles, fueled by their recent invitational success, aim to script a triumphant chapter in Moroccan football history.
