Olusegun Obasanjo: Former Nigeria president hits hat-trick in alumni match

The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has turned out to be a goal machine after scoring hattrick in a novelty game between Baptist Boys’ High School (BBHS) alumni team and the teachers of the school.
The game took place on Monday at the school’s field in Saje, Abeokuta, as part of their centenary celebration.
Obasanjo who is often regarded as one of the best presidents to have ruled Africa’s populous nation, captain the Old Boys team as they defeated the Teachers Team 3-0 to mark 100th anniversary of the school existence.
The game was witnessed by Old students of the school, as well as other dignitaries including Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, and Hakeem Akintunde, the chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
BBHS has produced a lot of well known personalities among which is Nigeria’s foremost federalist Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the Aare Ona Kankafo XIV of Yorubaland Late Moshood Abiola and Obasanjo who served as Nigeria’s head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007.
This is not the first Obasanjo has performed in a charity fixture. In March 2022, the 85-year-old participated in a 5-aside novelty football game to celebrate his birthday, scoring twice as his side recorded a 4-2 victory.
During his second tenure as President, Nigeria co-hosted the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Ghana but, finished as runners-up after losing to Cameroon on penalties in the final.
