Onyi Echegini: Super Falcons midfielder in Turin ahead of Juventus switch

 Nigeria midfielder, Onyi Echegini is close to a switch to former Italian champions, Juventus, NigeriaFootball learnt.
 
The Florida State University player has traveled to Italy in a bid to complete negotiation for his move to the Bianconeri ahead of the 2023/2024 season as Juventus try to reclaim the league title from AS Roma and get a respectable finish at the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
 
If the move becomes successful, she will be the first Super Falcons player to sign for Juventus and join the number of Nigerian players that have played in the Italian topflight.
 
She was part of the Nigeria side that reached the Round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand as she played three of the team’s four games against Canada, Australia, and England.
 
The versatile midfielder scored her first goal for the national team as Nigeria secured a 3-0 win over New Zealand in an international friendly match ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
 
Echegini had a career year in her first season in the Garnet and Gold with a career-high 11 goals, six assists, and 28 points at the end of 2022. 
 
At the end of the season, she won accolades like College Soccer News Team of the Week on September 21, 2022; ACC All-Tournament Team (2022), All-ACC Second Team (2022); ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week (twice during the year); and College Soccer News Team of the Week 
 
She previously played at Bexleyheath Academy where her team won the London Borough of Bexley Championship three times. Bexleyheath was then placed third in the London Youth Games and took second in the Football Association Kent Cup.
 
Echegini also played club football with Arsenal where she won the FA Cup in 2019 and ran on the cross country and track teams as well as played volleyball and handball. She held school records in the 3000m and high jump.
