Osimhen inspires Napoli to garner historic Serie A points with a win at Salenitania

In form Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen produced another Man of the Match performance on Saturday as he helped Napoli recorded an historic Serie A 2-0 win over struggling Salernitana.

Osimhen scored his 13th league in the encounter stretching his lordship as the league top scorer in the current campaign.

The victory also make Napoli became just the fourth Serie A team ever to reach 50 points after 19 matches.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo gave Napoli the lead when he finished up a Frank Anguissa’s cutback making it his first Serie A goal since November 2021.

Gli Azzurri doubled their lead immediately after the break as Eljif Elmas’ curling strike rebounded off the post straight to Osimhen, who tapped in from close range to make it a fourth goalscoring league match in five, and put himself four goals clear of his nearest chasers in the league’s scoring charts.

There ultimately was to be no ‘second coming’ for Nicola, and Salernitana’s best chance of a consolation came when Piątek’s strike was tipped onto the post by Meret with ten minutes to go.

Napoli are now 12-point lead as they target a first Scudetto in more than three decades, on the back of their best-ever first half to a 38-game top-flight season.

Osimhen is also leading the race to become the first African to win the top scorer award the history of Serie A.
