Gangling Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen scored a late goal to secure a historic 1-0 win for Napoli over rivals AS Roma in an Italian Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olympico on Sunday.

Roma went into the game in search of their first win over Napoli since 2019 but the events of the night didn’t make it look it would happen in that particular fixture.
Jose Mourinho’s side almost find themselves behind just before the break when referee pointed to the spot for a foul from goalkeeper Rui Patrício on Tanguy Ndombele but the host were lucky as the VAR overturned the decision.

Napoli were not perturbed with the change in decision as they went stronger in the game forcing Roma deep to the their half.

They would then find the goal that would be enough to sealed the win and cement their spot on the log with nine minutes from time.

Osimhen who have led the attack superbly for the visitors all evening,  found the net with a rifled first-time strike into the top left corner, leaving Rui Patrício with little chance of making a save.

It was the third goal of the season for the Super Eagles’ striker, all coming in three consecutive matches since recovering from his injury in the current campaign.

Osimhen’s goal for the Azurri also made them repeat their 1930 feat when they ever won 11 consecutive fixtures across all competitions.

The victory also saw to help his side equalled their best ever 11 matches unbeaten run in all competitions.

The defeat has however made Roma missed the chance to win four Serie A games in a row for the first time under José Mourinho and leave them seven points behind leaders Napoli.
