The Oyo State Executive Council, led by Acting Governor Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, has approved the sum of ₦110 million for the camping and hosting of Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s national football team ahead of their 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture against Rwanda.

The state government confirmed the approval on Tuesday, noting that the funds will cover logistics, accommodation, and match hosting expenses for the crucial two-legged tie.

Falconets’ new head coach Moses Aduku had earlier invited 35 players to camp in preparation for the qualifiers.

Nigeria will face Rwanda in the second round of the African qualifiers, with the first leg scheduled for Sunday, 21 September in Kigali, while the return leg will hold at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Saturday, 27 September.

At last year’s tournament in Colombia, the Falconets exited in the Round of 16 after defeating Korea Republic (1-0) and Venezuela (4-0), but losing to Germany (1-3) and Japan (1-2).

They previously reached the final of the tournament twice, finishing second on both occasions and hope to become the first African women’s national team to win a global competition.

The next edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will take place in Poland in 2026, featuring 24 teams.
