Palladino’s revelation on Lookman stuns Juric as Nigerian star thrives at Atalanta

Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino has delivered a strong endorsement of Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, praising his professionalism and commitment in remarks that sharply contrast with the criticisms previously levelled by former coach Ivan Juric.

Palladino, who took charge earlier this season, said one of his first decisions was to establish personal relationships with every player, including Lookman, whose future at Atalanta had appeared uncertain.

“When I arrived, I spoke with everyone individually to build a personal relationship — players are human,” Palladino said, as reported by L’Interista.

“We spoke with Ademola; he’s a great professional who is sacrificing himself for the team. He and I want the same thing: to make the club great. The results are showing.”

Under the new manager, Lookman has rediscovered his form, scoring twice in Serie A across nine appearances and adding his first UEFA Champions League goal of the season.

Palladino’s praise is a striking departure from the tense dynamic Lookman experienced under Juric, who had publicly questioned the Nigerian’s commitment and even dropped him from matchday squads.

The friction peaked during the summer transfer saga when Lookman submitted a transfer request after a €45 million bid was turned down, leading to missed training sessions and a breakdown in trust.

The forward had also endured difficult moments under Gian Piero Gasperini, who once criticised him harshly after a Champions League penalty miss before later offering support.

With Palladino now providing a more constructive environment, Lookman appears revitalized.

His resurgence suggests Atalanta may yet retain one of their most influential attacking players — a remarkable turnaround considering the turbulence of the past year.
