By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria’s Group C opponents, 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions Japan have named their squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics slated for next month (July).

The 19-player roster includes two goalkeepers, six defenders, seven midfielders, and four forwards.

AS Roma’s Saki Kumagai and her club teammate Moeka Minami are heading to the Olympics alongside seven English-based players.

Risa Shimizu (Westham), Yui Hasegawa (Manchester City), Honoka Hayashi (Westham), Fuka Nagano (Liverpool FC), Hinata Miyazawa (Manchester United), Riko Ueki (Westham), and Maika Hamano (Chelsea FC) complete the English Women’s Super League contingent in the Nadeshikos squad for the summer Olympics.

Other foreign-based players on the roster include Toko Koga (Feyenoord), Momoko Tanimawa (FC Rosengard), and Remina Chiba (Eintracht Frankfurt).

Seven home-based players also made the cut while four players were placed in the reserves barring injuries before the tournament.

Japan will start their campaign at the Olympics against world champions Spain on July 15 before facing Brazil three days later.
