Paris 2024: Success Makanjuola attributes team spirit, unity to Tanzania victory

Captain of Nigeria’s U23 national team, Success Makanjuola has credited his side’s 2-0 second leg win over Tanzania on Saturday to team collective effort and unity in the Olympic Eagles.
The Dream Team had to wait till second half before getting past their visitors with goals from Ogunniyi Omojesu and an own goal from Tanzania keeper making the Nigerian side qualify on 3-1 aggregate.
Nigeria had played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg decided at Dar el Salaam last weekend and after the second leg triumph, Makanjuola commended the coaches for their patience and believe in the team;
“It’s all about unity and continuity. The coach made us realize the importance of winning,” he said.
“Our coaches had to make us understand the need to be decisive and calm down, we followed their instructions and played without naivety,” he said.
Asked if he’s under pressure leading the new set of Dream Team and senior team challenge, the Water FC product said he would take his time and wait for the opportunities but would focus on task at hand with the Under 23 side.
“I am enjoying my journey, when the time comes I will play for the Super Eagles, for now, its all about Dream Team,” he ethused.
“The captain arm band is a burden of the nation, I have people who have supported me since the journey started, the coaches have encouraged me and I am not under pressure because the right people are around me.”
The Nigeria U23 team will wait for the winner between Guinea and Uganda to determine their last opponent before qualifying for the main AFCON U23 Championship.
