By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team will stage their return to the Olympics with a clash against South American champions, Brazil in July.

This will be the first match for the nine-time African champions since 2008 in Beijing.

Their first Group C game against the Selecao is billed for 42,115 capacity Matmut Atlantique, Bordeaux with a 6:00 pm kick-off time on July 25, 2024.

The last meeting between both sides was a 4-3 win for Brazil over Super Falcons in the quarter-final of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States of America (USA).

This will be followed by a huge clash against World champions, Spain at the 35,322 capacity Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes which will get underway by 6:00 pm Nigeria time on July 28.

The clash is the first between both sides at senior women’s national team level.

The last group clash will see Randy Waldrum’s side trade tackles with 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup winners, Japan in Bordeaux kicking off by 4:00 pm Nigerian time on July 31.

The Nadeshikos got the best out of Super Falcons the last time they both met in an internal friendly match two years ago.

The top two teams from Group A, B, and C will automatically qualify for the quarter final and will be joined by the top two best third-placed teams.

Nigeria’s best outing at the women’s football event of the Olympics was a quarter-final finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.
