Remo Stars and Nasarawa Amazons seals Playoffs berths with a game to spare

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Remo Stars Ladies secured their place in the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs with a 2-2 draw against Abia Angels, still having one game to spare.

The Sky Blue Stars only needed a draw to qualify for the playoffs in their second season in the top league. Their matchday 13 encounter was delayed from Wednesday to Thursday morning because of heavy rain in Umuahia.

The home team needed a win to capture the last Group A playoff spot before the final matchday of the regular season.

Bolaji Olamide put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute with a shot from outside the box after a loose ball.

The hosts equalised five minutes later when Mary Lucky scored to make it 1-1.

With the game heading for a draw, Olamide scored her second goal of the match in the 92nd minute with a terrific strike.

A minute later, Mariam Abdulrasheed’s header found the net, sealing the game at 2-2.

Remo Stars narrowly avoided a late goal by Abia Angels and secured their playoff spot.

They joined Edo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Rivers Angels, and Bayelsa Queens in the playoffs.

Naija Ratels and FC Robo Queens will fight for the final playoff spot next week on the last matchday.
