Rivers United vs Young Africans Preview: Pride of Rivers aim to end Yanga’s home run

Rivers United of Nigeria has a daunting task on Sunday when they square up against Young Africans of Tanzania in the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final clash in Dar-es-Salaam.

The uphill task for the Pride of Rivers is to cancel out a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in Uyo.

Two second-half goals from Fiston Mayele off Bakari Mwamnyeto’s assist lifted the Tanzanians to hand the Nigerians its first home loss of the campaign.

Sunday’s match will take place at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium with a 5:00 pm kick-off time (Nigeria time).

Young Africans have won five of its last six games in all competitions with its solitary loss coming against Simba FC in a 2-0 defeat on April 16 during a Ligi Kuu Bara encounter.

The team is also unbeaten in 21 home games which signifies a tough task for the Nigerian champions.

Stanley Eguma’s wards have won a match in its last six games which was a 1-0 win over Dakkada FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on April 17.

The team has lost three and drawn two of its last six games in all competitions. In the last three meetings, last Sunday’s 2-0 loss was the first time that the Tanzanians had been able to defeat Rivers United.

Rivers United had won the last two encounters with a 1-0 scoreline in the 2021 CAF Champions League encounter.

Moroccan referee, Redouane Jiyed will be at the centre of the field as both sides attempt to make it to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
