Rohr Expresses Concern Over Onyekuru’s Injury, Hoping for Speedy Recovery

Nigeria’s national team coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed his sadness over the injury suffered by Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru while playing for his Belgian side, Anderlecht, this past weekend. The Everton star, currently on loan at Anderlecht, was forced off the pitch in the 78th minute after a collision with Eupen goalkeeper Hendrik Van Crombrugge, resulting in a serious injury.
Reports suggest that Onyekuru will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Speaking to Completesportsnigeria.com on Tuesday, Super Eagles Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye revealed that Rohr was deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Onyekuru’s injury.
“Rohr was not happy, but we are hopeful that he will recover in time for the World Cup. Being a young player, there is a greater chance of a quick recovery, so we are praying and hoping he returns in time,” Ibitoye told Completesportsnigeria.com.
In light of the unfortunate incident, both Rohr and several high-ranking officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have reached out to Onyekuru to convey their well wishes and support.
“We have already contacted him to wish him well,” added Ibitoye.
Onyekuru’s injury comes as a blow to both Anderlecht and the Super Eagles, as the talented forward had been in good form prior to the incident. His absence from the pitch for the remainder of the season may impact his chances of securing a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the highly anticipated World Cup.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their World Cup campaign, Rohr and his coaching staff will be closely monitoring Onyekuru’s recovery progress, hoping for a speedy return to full fitness. The young player’s potential and ability to make a swift comeback provide a glimmer of hope for his inclusion in the Nigerian squad as they embark on their World Cup journey.
