Samuel Kalu: It felt good to be back with Watford

By Olu Dare

Samuel Kalu has expressed his delight to be back with English Championship side, Watford.

The Nigeria international made a cameo appearance in the Hornets’ 2-0 triumph over Reading on Tuesday – having missed many games due to injury.

An ankle knock sustained against Wigan in late October put him back on the sidelines for the Cardiff and Coventry clashes earlier this month, but he made a lively introduction off the bench as a 66th-minute substitute against the Royals.

He quickly went close to notching an assist when he almost set up Keinan Davis at the back post.

“It felt good to be back with the team,” said Kalu told Watford website.

“It’s been quite frustrating at times this season, but I felt great out there.

“The coach [Slaven Bilić] just told me to play my normal game – to attack, but also to help the defence. I really enjoyed being back out there, and the most important thing is that as a team we came away with the three points.

“We have to do everything to win these games, and we really needed this one after the defeat to Coventry on Saturday.

“This sets us up nicely for the match against Bristol City, and we’ll go again looking for another win.

“João Pedro is a special player, and he’s great to play with. In the whole team there is lots of quality, and I hope I can get more minutes and have a strong impact going forward.”
