Seun Anani and Sofiat Shotunde are confident that Adamawa Queens can qualify for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six from Group B at the end of the regular season.
Jacob Vandhi’s team ended the first stanza on a disappointing note after a 3-0 loss to Robo Queens and the result saw the Yola based outfit entered the break in fourth position with nine points from six games on Wednesday.
And the former Naija Ratels defender believes her side is still on course to achieve their impossible this term.
“At the end of the season, I see us finishing at the top three positions in the group. Our goal is not just to play the league but to meet ourselves at the Super Six,” Anani told www.nigeriafootball.ng.
“Honestly speaking, it wasn’t a good result but I just believe everything is just for a reason. It’s just for us to go back and come back strong in the second stanza of the league.
“We have really tried and I believe we can do better than what we did in the first round. It’s just for us to go back within the two weeks break to prepare ourselves. We are coming out strong.”
In six games, Adamawa recorded three victories and three defeats, with all the wins coming on their three home ground duels against Ibom Angels (2-0), Confluence Queens (1-0), and Nasarawa Amazons (1-0), while defeats from their away trips to Edo Queens (4-0), Abia Angels (1-0), and FC Robo Queens (3-0).
Despite their defeat in Lagos, teammate Sofiat Shotunde, who scored the team’s lone goal in 1-0 win over Confluence Queens reechoed Anani’s confidence about their season’s quest.
“We will try again in our next match. Football is all about scoring goals that might end in a win, draw, or loss. We will try to put in more effort in our next game,” she told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“Our main focus is to qualify for the Super Six at the end of the season from the group by God’s grace.”
Adamawa Queens scored four goals and conceded eight after six games and they will aim to improve on their defensive lapses especially at away games when the second stanza of the league kicks off on February 8.
