Shehu Abdullahi Sets Sights on World Cup Spot

Cyprus-based defender Shehu Abdullahi has expressed his determination to secure a place in the Super Eagles’ final squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Abdullahi, who narrowly missed out on the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, is confident about his prospects for the upcoming tournament.The 25-year-old Abdullahi played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Zambia, which secured the country’s sixth World Cup appearance. Reflecting on the challenge of earning a spot in the World Cup squad, Abdullahi recognizes the fierce competition he faces but remains optimistic about his chances.
While competing for a right-back position on the Super Eagles squad, Abdullahi currently holds an edge over Hull City’s Ola Aina and ADO Den Haag’s Tyrone Ebuehi. He emphasized his commitment to securing a place in the final squad, stating, “It is not easy to make the final list for the World Cup, but I will make sure I work hard, concentrate, remain fit, and give my best to the team. I’m happy being part of this Super Eagles squad.”
Abdullahi also aims to maintain his impressive form while playing for Anothosis Famagusta in the Cypriot top division. His team is currently leading the league, and he hopes they can sustain their performance throughout the season.
