Stanley Eguma defends Rivers United players after drab draw at Abia Warriors

By Saheed Afolabi
Rivers United’s head coach Stanley Eguma has shielded his players from criticisms following their barren draw with Abia Warriors in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League encounter.
The Pride of Port-Harcourt were denied a massive scoring chance from the spot when goalkeeper Darlington Ovunda made a magnificent 67th minute save to deny Rivers United from the spot kick and ensured a stalemate.
In a defence of his players, Eguma believes they gave their best but could only settle for a point, while assuring a better showing in upcoming fixture against Enugu Rangers.
“We tried our best and we hoped for victory before the game, but we take this point as it comes and hope to bounce back with good display,” the manager told media.
Rivers United are in the second spot in the NPFL abridged group B with 15 points from eight matches as they have a game in hand against Flying Antelopes scheduled for 15th of March 2023.
The Pride of Port Harcourt will square up against Motema Pembe in the CAF Confederations Cup on Wednesday eighth of March 2023.
