Stanley Eguma hails Rivers United players’ performance amid congested fixtures
By Saheed Afolabi
Head coach of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma has showered praises on his players for giving their best despite their congested fixtures in the past few months, including the Caf Confederation Cup campaign.
The Pride of Port-Harcourt have had to contend with their rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League matches and group stages battle, playing 10 matches in the space of two months since February 1, 2023.
Following Nyima Nwagua’s inspired 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers on Wednesday, the Rivers United tactician described the fixtures as very congested and promised to manage it well for the club.
“I thank God, it was a good game, I thank the players it was a good effort but we played with a lot of fatigue and you can see it in the game,” Eguma told media.
“The fixtures are very much congested, so we will try as much as possible to manage the game. I manage the players too, there are a lot of wear and tear in the team but we try to manage.
“We thank God today for the victory, I thank the players for their efforts they put in. Rangers were a very tough side for us today and with what they played today, I see them as a very strong contender in the group.”
The lone goal victory against Enugu Rangers have catapulted Rivers United to the second position in the NPFL abridged group B with 18 points from nine matches as they trail table toppers Lobi Stars by a point.
The Pride of Port-Harcourt will battle Abia Warriors in their next NPFL match on the 26th of March at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt.
