Stanley Eguma praises Rivers United for showing character against Remo Stars

Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma has praised his team for showing character after a late equalizer to avoid defeat at the hands of Remo Stars on Monday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Super Six match.
Despite scoring early through Nyima Nwangwa, Lukman Adefemi struck at the death to force a late stalemate for the Port Harcourt-based side after Adebayo Olamilekan turned the tie around with a second-half brace for Remo Stars.
“It’s football because you don’t give up. If we had given up, we wouldn’t have been able to equalise. We still believed that something can happen and it did happen. That’s the spirit,” Eguma told journalists.
“We plan to get the three points which were why we scored the first goal. We expected the second goal there were a lot of misses from players. I will say that misses are part of the game.
“When Remo Stars scored the second goal, our boys showed character almost instantly and went to equalise. The game has come this way. We give God the glory and have to prepare for the next game. The competition is still on.
“We are the defending champions and want to defend our title. We are not pushovers and are confident that we can in it again.”
A 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars on Saturday thanks to Ebube Duru’s penalty before Abegunrin Lukman Adefemi’s late equaliser salvaged a 2-2 draw for Eguma’s side.
Up next for the Port Harcourt-based side is a clash with Lobi Stars on Wednesday.
