Stanley Nwabali: Veteran pundit tips Nigerian goalkeeper to come good with QPR
By Wale Mustapha
Louis Moir, one of the recognized football pundits in England and an ardent Queens Park Rangers fan feels Nigerian number one goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali would be a good addition to the club in the face of speculation linking the young shot stopper with a transfer to the Championship club next summer.
The Hoops are shopping for a quality and reliable goalkeeper as a replacement for departing Asmir Begovic whose contract will be running out at the of current season and have made enquiries about the availability of Nwabali.
Nwabali was a standout performer at the 2023 African Cup of Nations with Super Eagles where he kept four clean sheets.
His performance in Ivory Coast was noticed by clubs in Europe and Asia with QPR and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ettifaq who have shown interest in him.
Moir noted that Nwabali could be a perfect addition to the Hoops’ goalkeeping position due to his international experience as he’s first choice for Nigeria.
“It would certainly be exciting, and one that I’d welcome, so if it was to happen it would be an interesting move,” Moir told Football League World in an interview.
“Although he plays in the South African league, to be Nigeria’s number one he has obviously got something about him.
“He’s also a decent age, arguably quite young for a keeper, so he has plenty of years ahead of him.
“It could be an exciting one and hopefully the rumours are true and something more will develop from it.”
This season, the 27-year-old Nwabali has posted eight clean sheets in seventeen games in the South African top-flight while conceding 15 goals.
