Sunday Oliseh appointed to International Football Association Board Advisory Panel

By Monsurah Olatunji
Former Nigerian international and Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has been appointed to the Football Advisory Panel of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the global body responsible for setting and updating the laws of the game.
Oliseh shared the announcement via social media on Monday, expressing his excitement about joining the 21-member panel that helps shape the rules governing football worldwide.
“Thrilled to announce my appointment to the International Football Association Board (IFAB),” Oliseh wrote.
“Honoured to contribute to its mission of shaping the beautiful game for players and fans worldwide.”
Established in 1886, IFAB plays a central role in defining and maintaining the Laws of the Game.
Its advisory panels—comprising former players, coaches, and technical experts—ensure that proposed changes are grounded in practical, on-the-pitch realities.
Oliseh brings a wealth of experience to the role. In addition to a distinguished playing career, the former midfielder has served on FIFA’s Technical Study Group at major tournaments, including the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He joins a panel that includes notable football figures such as Arsène Wenger, Luis Figo, Esteban Cambiasso, Paolo Wanchope, and fellow Nigerian and ex-teammate Daniel Amokachi.
The Football Advisory Panel, alongside IFAB’s Technical Advisory Panel, evaluates the sporting and practical impact of proposed rule modifications.
Their input helps ensure that football’s evolution remains aligned with both tradition and the modern game’s demands.
Oliseh’s inclusion marks another milestone for African representation in international football governance.
