Hull City loanee and Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, has joined former Chelsea youth teammates in expressing grief over the passing of their ex-coach, Dermot Drummy. Drummy, who played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of promising talents, passed away at the age of 56 on Monday. His son, Joe, confirmed the sad news on Twitter without disclosing the cause of death.
Aina, who was part of the Chelsea U-21 squad that clinched the English Premier League title in the 2013-14 season under Drummy, took to his Twitter handle to convey his shock and pay tribute: “Rest in peace Derm,” he wrote.
Several other notable names from the Chelsea youth setup, including Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Patrick Bamford, Nathan Ake, Billy Clifford, Isaiah Brown, Lewis Baker, and John Swift, also expressed their sorrow over the loss of their mentor.
Swansea manager Paul Clement, a former colleague of Drummy at Chelsea, joined the chorus of condolences on Twitter: “Shocked to hear of the death of my former colleague from Chelsea FC, Dermot Drummy. Very sad. Rest in peace.”
The football community, especially those who had the privilege of working with Drummy, is united in mourning the loss of a coach who played a significant role in nurturing talent and leaving a lasting impact on the sport.
