Super Eagles get more time to prepare for AFCON as CAF postpones the tournament

The Tremendous Eagles of Nigeria must wait a short while longer for the AFCON match because the Government Committee of the Confederation of African Soccer (CAF) has postponed the 2023 version to be held in Ivory Coast as a result of unfavorable climate situations.
Simply because the final version was moved from 2021 to 2022 as a consequence of Covid-19, the 2023 version shall be moved to 2024, this time as a result of climate.
The thirty fourth version of Africa’s flagship soccer competitors has been shifted to the dry season in Ivory Coast, January 2024.
AFCON 2023 was initially scheduled to be held from June 23 to July 23, 2023 within the West African Nation.
The Tremendous Eagles are well-placed to qualify for the following Africa Cup of Nations after successful their first two matches in Group A of qualifying in opposition to Sierra Leone(2-1) and São Tomé and Príncipe(10-0).

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, July 3, CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said : “The 2023 Afcon will now be performed between January and February 2024.
“This is likely one of the points we mentioned throughout our congress assembly right here in Morocco and the official dates shall be communicated later.
“It’s after deliberations we got here into the choice, we now have companions and despite the fact that we make choices, it’s out of respect that we take the recommendation we’re getting that we can not take a danger [to host the tournament] and so that’s the reason we now have made the required announcement at the moment [Sunday].
“It’s not good for African soccer to play a match that may be washed out, it isn’t good for Africa and the continent at giant and so we now have to postpone it.”
The Tremendous Eagles will host nearest Group A challengers in AFCON qualifying, Guinea-Bissau in September 2022.
