Super Eagles set for November friendlies against Venezuela, Colombia in U.S. tour

By Dayo Awoniyi

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially confirmed that the Super Eagles will face Venezuela and Colombia in a pair of high-profile international friendlies during a U.S. tour this November.

According to Jairo Pachón of Eurodata Sport, FIFA Match Agent for the NFF, the three-time African champions will take on Venezuela on Friday, November 14, at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. local time (2:00 a.m. on Saturday in Nigeria).

Four days later, on Tuesday, November 18, the Super Eagles will clash with Colombia at Citi Field Stadium in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York, with kick-off also set for 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (1:00 a.m. Wednesday in Nigeria).

The upcoming friendlies are part of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the final rounds of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

While both fixtures promise strong tests against South American opposition, the United States has not been a particularly favourable venue for the Super Eagles in recent years.

During their last U.S. tour in 2022, Nigeria fell 2–1 to Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas — a match that featured Cyriel Dessers scoring his first international goal.

They also suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Ecuador in New Jersey, concluding the tour winless.

That 2022 tour also marked the debut of current head coach José Peseiro, who will be looking to guide his side to a stronger showing this time around as Nigeria aims to build momentum ahead of competitive fixtures in 2026.
