Super Falcons maintain spot as Zambia rise on FIFA women rankings

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team remained the top-ranked team in Africa and maintained their 36th position despite qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics and staging a return after 16 years in latest women’s football ranking on Friday, June 14, 2024.

During the period under the ranking review, the Super Falcons defeated South Africa 1-0 over two legs to seal a place at the Olympics to end their long wait for a return to the multi-sport event, with teams maintaining their places and little movements.

African champions South Africa also maintained their second spot in Africa in 51st place as Morocco which faltered to Zambia at the Olympics Qualifiers dropped a place to 59th in the world and third in Africa.

Zambia, the only African team in the top ten that made a slight surge moved a place from 65th to 64th and also maintained their fourth spot on the continent.

Ghana (65), Cameroon (68), Cote D’Ivoire (71), Tunisia (78), Mali (81), and two-time Africa champions Equatorial Guinea (82) complete the top ten ranked women’s football teams.

The next ranking is expected to be released after the Olympics where the Super Falcons and Copper Queens will represent Africa.
