Super Lig: Besiktas confirm Wilfred Ndidi injury ahead of Başakşehir clash

By Wale Mustapha

Turkish giants Besiktas have confirmed that Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles.

Ndidi picked up the setback during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

He was substituted in the 72nd minute and replaced by Crystal Palace’s new signing, Christantus Uche.

The 28-year-old is now expected to miss Besiktas’ Turkish Super Lig home fixture against Istanbul Başakşehir on Saturday.

Ndidi only joined the Black Eagles last month from English Championship side Leicester City. Since arriving, he has featured twice in the league under head coach Sergen Yalçın.

The club has yet to confirm the length of his absence, but his injury comes as an early setback in his bid to establish himself as a key figure in the midfield.
