Taiwo Awoniyi scores again as Nottingham Forest earn first Premier League win of the season

Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi scored his second goal in the new English Premier League season when Nottingham Forest defeated Sheffield United 2-1 at the City Ground on Friday evening.

The encounter kick started the Matchday Two as the Triky Trees returned to their fortress for the first time in new season.

The match marked the season’s first starting appearance for the Super Eagles’ striker who had helped the host strike first with a towering header inside opening third minutes following a whipping cross from Serge Aurier.

Apart being his second goal in the new campaign, it also make Awoniyi getting on the scoresheet for a sixth consecutive Premier League games.

The hosts could have scored more goals in the first half no thanks to miserable misses from both Morgan Gibbs-White and Brennan Johnson that made both teams went into half time with slender margin.

Gustavo Hamer brought the game back on level terms with a sublime curling finish from the edge of the box just three minutes after restart.

Awoniyi thought he had restored Forest’ lead after the hour mark but had his another headed goal chalked off for offside.

The Nigerian striker was them swapped for Chris’s Wood in the claim minutes and the New Zealand striker justified his introduction by manager Steve Cooper as he scored the stoppage time goal for the hosts with yet another assist from Aurier.

There were no much left for the Blades to make a second comeback despite a late surge as Nottingham Forest held on for their first league win of the season.

Sheffield United will have to wait much longer before getting their first Premier League point as Awoniyi will seek to continue in his rich vein of goalscoring form for the Forest.
