Tobi Adeyemo: Nigeria-elegible forward scores in senior league debut for Watford
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria-eligible player Tobi Adeyemo netted for Watford on his senior league debut in a 2-0 win for the Hornets, as Blackpool’s torrid winless streak extended to 10 Championship outings.
Instead of refusing to die down, Watford continued pushing for a goal in the season half after dominating the first stanza. It eventually finds the breakthrough via 17-year-old Adeyemo 20 minutes from time.
Initially saving Matheus Martins’ effort, Maxwell’s save fell into the path of Adeyemo, who steered home a much-deserved opening goal.
The points were secured at the death, when Sarr, who once again displayed his class, slotted home from 12 yards after goalkeeper Maxwell brought down Martins in the penalty area.
Adeyemo who didn’t start the game replaced Vakoun Issouf Bayo in the 68th minute before scoring a debut goal for the Hornets.
William Troost Ekong was replaced by Matheus Martins in the 46th minute, while compatriot and goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye was an unused substitute for Watford.
A fine performance for Watford who moved to third place in the table after securing back-to-back league wins.
