Tosan Blankson: Rivers Angels coach confident of winning league after draw with Bayelsa Queens

The head coach of Rivers Angels, Tosan Blankson says his side can win the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title.

The former Delta Queens gaffer said this after the Jewels of Rivers played out a 1-1 draw with Bayelsa Queens in the NWFL Premiership South South derby in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

According to the former league winning coach, his side’s beautiful play and avoiding defeat against all odds make them favourite to win their first league title since 2021.

“I am short of words. If these girls can play football like this against all odds. When I say all odds I know what I am talking about,” Blankson said.

“I don’t like talking about officiating but if these girls (Rivers Angels girls) can play ball like this, that means winning the Super Six because we are already sure of Super Six. Winning the Super Six is sure.”

Both sides maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign after five games having 11 points apiece.

Blankson now focusses on their next clash against debutant, Benue Queens next Wednesday.

“The team has always been flying. This is not the first time. The first half is meant for the players. The second half is meant for the coaches. We all saw the second half today. The draw is as good as win,” He added.

“We accept the draw and prepare for our next match.”

Blankson led Delta Queens to the 2022/23 league title on home soil at the expense of Bayelsa Queens.
